I read an article in a weekly about KasiVinayagam Mess at Akbar Sahib street,( near Chepauk Cricket stadium on the way to Triplicane) and their traditional method of cooking. I was informed in that article, about their great taste. So as a food lover I went there for a trial. The local people said it was a excellent place to eat.Though a small mess it looked neat. But hand wash tap and it's cleaneness may not appeal to many. The table had numbers.Token's are issued at a price of Rs.45 & extra eight rupees for the curd.We have to wait at the entrance for our number table to be vacated. After a wait of 10 minutes I sat at front of a banana leaf. There was a yellowish aviyal served first. It was a mixture of vegetables including carrot. It was prepared well and had a quality. Then there was a poriyal of Aloo which I always like to eat. The potatoes were soft and I thanked God for that.
Rice was cooked hastily. It stuck in as a ball and hard to seperate. Sambar haf Mullangi which I do not like at all. But it also had few drumsticks which I like.So I took half heartedly. The next dound of Kara Kozhumbu was missing. Instead they served Ghee and dhal as starter before sambar. Dhal was great and when I asked for some more, the server said it would cost me more.Rasam too was good and the curd superb. Still I could not guess what marks I need to give for it. So I decided to check in the next day.
This time I went earlier around 12.30pm.The tables were empty. I need not wait. This time there was different menu. It was Vazhakkai poriyal and Keerai koottu. Both had a good taste. This time Sambar was with drumsticks minus the mullangi. So I ate satisfiedly. this time I was lucky enough to have a cup of Kara Kozhumbu. It was real taste. So my image of the place grew. I wish to give it 60 marks.I added this place to visit a while with my family.
